Culture:


  • History: With a history marked by civil wars and dictatorships, El Salvador has worked towards political stability since the signing of the peace accords in 1992. 

  • Economy: Based on agriculture, with products like coffee and sugar, El Salvador has also modernized with an economy driven by manufacturing and services.

  • Music: Salvadoran cumbia and ranchera music are popular, along with modern influences from reggaeton. 

  • Food: Pupusas are the national dish, accompanied by curtido and salsa. Other notable dishes include tamales and atol. 

  • Traditions: Patron saint festivals and the Day of the Lanterns are important cultural celebrations, along with the San Miguel Carnival.

  • José Napoleón Duarte: Former president who promoted agrarian and educational reform.

  • Romero Martínez: Salvadoran artist and activist, defender of human rights on the international stage.

  • J.R.   Martinez – An actor, motivational speaker, and U.S. Army   veteran, Martinez has used his platform to inspire Hispanic youth and   veterans.

  • Dr. Carlos Porras – A Salvadoran-American physician, Dr. Porras has focused on public health programs that serve underserved Hispanic populations.   

  • Ana Villafañe – A Salvadoran-American actress, Villafañe has starred in   Broadway shows like On Your Feet!, bringing more representation of Hispanic women to the  performing arts.
